Solving File Services Challenges with Native Cloud File Services – Part 2 (Migration and Synchronization)

November 15, 2018

Topics: Azure NetApp Files File Services

Welcome back to our 3-part blog series, examining the major challenges of file services and the solutions that NetApp® Cloud Volumes Service offers. In part 1, we discussed compatibility and continuity. In part 2, we’ll look at migration and synchronization.

This is part of a series of articles about Azure files

Migration

When you migrate your data to the cloud, the last thing you want to do is rewrite the applications that depend on your cloud-based file share. When applications need to be recoded, the enterprise has to commit a significant amount of time and money to testing, to ensure that the end user isn’t negatively affected. A seamless migration is absolutely crucial.

Cloud Volumes Service runs file shares at peak performance, in your preferred cloud: Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud. With such optimal performance levels, you can move workloads to the cloud more efficiently than ever before. And NetApp takes care of the tedious parts: setup, configuration, updates, and service levels. All you have to do is move your data where you want it, without the time and frustration of testing.

Synchronization

As with migration, data synchronization is a necessity with storing data in the cloud. Any data that moves to the cloud in the file share has to be kept synchronized between all of the disparate environments in use, whether housed on the premises or in multiple cloud environments. Any breakup of synchronization makes it impossible to effectively manage data, no matter where it lives.

Cloud Sync technology, available through Cloud Volumes Service and Azure NetApp Files, imports data from on-premises and other storage repositories. Not only does this technology simplify migration, it also ensures that your data syncs between environments. Cloud Volumes Service integrates directly with both platform and compute services, so your data stays connected.
