Another month, and another round of exciting updates! This August, we added new features in NetApp BlueXP Console, Cloud Backup, Cloud Volumes ONTAP, Ransomware Protection, Cloud Data Sense, and more.

These updates give you added functionality to make each tool more flexible while also providing better protection for your data. For a quick overview of all the updates this month, have a look at our latest vlog.

What’s New in Cloud Backup

In August, Cloud Backup saw some updated features that expand the tool’s capabilities to offer more protection and flexibility.

  • Object locking now available.
Cloud Backup now supports object locking, ensuring that no backup can ever be deleted. In case someone does try to move or delete the backup, a new version is automatically created, and Cloud Backup issues an alert. • Added indexed catalog for Azure.
We added a fully managed, fully protected catalog that’s contained in the customer’s environment. Based on cloud-native big data technology, and with Google-like search mechanism, this catalog can scale to your needs and has very low costs. • Hybrid connector deployment flexibility.
The connector can now be added on-premises, offering a truly hybrid solution. And it can be deleted and redeployed as needed.

  • Cloud Backup service for managed Kubernetes.
Cloud Backup can now protect the persistent data in your fully managed Kubernetes clusters on Amazon EKS, Azure Kubernetes Service, and Google Kubernetes Engine. For more, check out our blog: How to Use NetApp BlueXP Console with Kubernetes.

Cloud Volumes ONTAP Updates

This month, Cloud Volumes ONTAP users also saw some new updates:

  • Cloud Volumes ONTAP security group now restricted to VPC CIDR.
When allowing BlueXP Console to create a security group, that group will be automatically limited to the VPC CIDR range to ensure nothing external can enter the cluster.

FSx for ONTAP Updates

By managing Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP (FSx for ONTAP) via BlueXP Console, you’ll have access to these features:

  • Discover your FSx for ONTAP clusters.
Simply select the cluster you want to discover, and it will be added to the BlueXP Console Canvas.

  • New FSx for ONTAP provisioning options.
Add volumes to your FSx for ONTAP cluster in BlueXP Console, and define their details: volume’s protocol, storage efficiency features, tiering policy, etc.

  • Throughput and replication options.
You can change the system’s throughput directly from BlueXP Console as well as create replications with a simple drag and drop.

New Cloud Tiering Features

Cloud Tiering also has a new feature this month. Here’s a look at what’s been updated:

  • Object storage mirroring has been added.
You can now mirror your tiered object storage on StorageGRID or the public cloud to achieve hybrid cloud or multicloud tiering. This ensures your object data is always safe and available.

Ransomware Protection Updates

This August, there was also an update to Ransomware Protection’s features:

  • Ransomware Protection now includes Active IQ integration.
By taking data from Active IQ and adding it to the Ransomware Protection dashboard, you can find additional vulnerabilities in your clusters alongside other data from Cloud Backup or Data Sense.

New BlueXP Console Documentation

New documentation has been added, which will especially help security-sensitive customers. Here’s what’s new:

  • Added permissions mapping documentation.
All the different AWS permissions are now mapped and available in this documentation. This will make it easier for you to see which permissions your Connector is using to access resources on AWS.

New in Data Sense

This month also came with updates in Data Sense. Here’s a breakdown of the new features:

  • Breadcrumbs are now enabled in the clean migration process.
This new feature allows you to create a small STAB file that you can define and keep at the source location to show you where the data has been moved.

  • Added ability to track scanning status.
Now, you can see the scanning status next to each item. This shows you how much classified and mapped data you have for each data source.
